Happy Birthday, Cowboys!

Today, The Ugly Bug Ball celebrates two birthdays.

My grandfather was born on this day in 1909.  He wasn’t actually a cowboy.  He was a National Park ranger.   Still, I love this photo of him in a jaunty cowboy hat.

It’s also Johnny Crawford’s 66th birthday.

He’s best known for playing young Mark McCain on The Rifleman, which everybody knows is my favorite western.  Mark was never seen celebrating his birthday on the show, so I got silly in photoshop to change that.

Happy birthday all the way around! The photo of your grandfather is adorable. And nice work photoshopping in the birthday stuff on The Rifleman photo! The party hats fit perfectly.

    • Thanks! Of course, plastic helium balloons are anachronisms in 1881, and the cake doesn’t have that slice taken out of it, but it’s not about realism, right?

EGADS !!! How did I miss this – did I miss the usual Ugly Bug email notice? Agree, your grandfather is adorable, and looks kind with a sense of humor. Love the B-day party for Johnny on the Rifleman – nice recent photo of him all grown up.
